Ed Storti Announces Certification by Registered Addiction Specialists
Paul K. Ward, 08/4/99

Ed Storti (ICADC, Intervention Specialist) announced his certification by Registered Addiction Specialists, the only authorized source for locating registered addiction specialists in one or more specialties of addictive disease. This service is offered free of charge on the internet. The online register is designed to serve anyone seeking a specialist whose certifications ensure a trained, experienced and ethical approach.

Mr. Storti said, "It's wonderful to have a service such as this. It offers to consumers the ability to find a trained specialist. It gives them easy access to detailed information about addiction specialists. The standards for inclusion on the list are high, so the consumer can have confidence in their selections."

To receive the designation of a "registered addiction specialist", the specialist must exceed the following standards:

  • The specialist must exceed 450 hours of training in specified studies of alcohol and drug abuse, compulsive gambling, eating disorders, smoking and nicotine addiction, codependency and other addictive disorders from an approved or accredited institution of higher learning (or work experience substitution for formal academic training at the rate of 200 hours actual work experience for 10 hours of academic credit), according to information from RAS Register.
  • Experiential work of 2000 hours or more of direct clinical experience in one or more of the special field listed above.
  • Other attributes relating to exams and internships are also considered when deciding whether to include a specialist in the register.

Ed Storti (ICADC, Intervention Specialist) has been practicing motivational intervention techniques for decades, winning the loyalty of clinics and the gratitude of clients in over 3000 interventions.

Mr. Storti's book, "Heart to Heart: The Honorable Approach to Motivational Intervention," emphasizes that interventions don't have to be performed to "break someone down" in order to convince them to enter treatment. His "model", which he tunes to each client's needs, has shown phenomenal success rates. "Intervention succeeds. It saves lives," said Mr. Storti. "I also think it works best when the patient motivates themselves to enter treatment. It leverages love, not despair."
